Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Traditional Butt Augmentation

Why have buttock surgery?

Due to genetic structure, the effects of gravity over time, or excessive weight gain (often following pregnancy), buttocks inevitably face problems such as loss of tone, soft tissue, adiposity, or cellulite. Lifting the buttocks, rounding them, increasing or reducing their volume are the most frequent requests made to the cosmetic surgeon. Well-shaped buttocks restore to the physique those proportions that make it harmonious and attractive and promote a healthy and serene life with oneself.

Buttock implants are prostheses surgically placed in the buttock tissues. A buttock lift, on the other hand, aims to restore good tone to the buttocks by lifting them, to give more harmonious shapes.

How are buttock lifts and traditional buttock augmentation performed?

Buttock Lift

The objective of the Brazilian butt lift is to lift the buttocks, or even better to eliminate the sagging part of the skin. Nothing is modified in terms of volume, except if combined with other techniques, typically lipofilling.

Excess tissues that give the buttock a sagging effect are removed from the top. This operation is followed by a pulling of the skin upwards.

A discreet scar must be accepted under the lumbar area, but well hidden by the simplest underwear.

The effect of tension and tone is less effective the further away from the scar. It will therefore be more evident in the upper half of the buttock and less and less as it goes down.

Sometimes, when indicated, liposuction is performed during this procedure.

This surgery is more functional than aesthetic. It is therefore indicated for those who have undergone significant weight loss and therefore have a lot of excess skin weighing on the area.

It is important to be realistic with this operation. In fact, the skin of the lower buttocks and upper thighs continues to be loose, although it is not as redundant and pendulous as before.

Buttock Augmentation with Prostheses

Although autologous fat (taken from the thighs, hips and/or abdomen) does not cause allergies and guarantees a totally natural result, sometimes it may not be sufficient or is not indicated for certain patients. This is particularly the case for thin people who do not have enough body fat.

In the latter case, it is possible to implant prostheses, provided the person has elastic and firm skin and good muscle tone. The procedure allows the implantation of a volume of about 400 cc per buttock. The intervention consists of making an incision of about 5/6 cm in the intergluteal fold, so that the scar remains hidden between the buttocks. In this space will be inserted the prosthesis, which generally has a smooth surface and is made of latest generation silicone. It is also practical to use drains that will only be left in place for a few days.

After Buttock Augmentation

Post-operative care for a buttock lipofilling?

The recovery time after a Brazilian butt lift varies from one patient to another: the patient is encouraged to mobilize as soon as possible and, after one week, she can resume simple daily activities and return to work after 10 to 14 days. After the operation, it is preferable to sleep on the stomach or side and avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for at least 10 days. It is preferable to start using special pillows that allow the weight to be transferred to the thighs rather than the buttocks, but it is always important to avoid sleeping on your back for the first few weeks after the operation. In addition, strenuous physical activity should be avoided for one month. Your surgeon may authorize low-impact exercises such as stretching or walking, but for the best possible results, you must strictly follow their instructions. In addition to these measures, compression garments should be worn for 6 to 8 weeks. This will reduce bruising and swelling, and at the same time help firm the skin. Lymphatic drainage massages can also help reduce bruising and swelling. However, it is necessary to wait a few weeks before undergoing these treatments and, in any case, it is advisable to consult your surgeon to rule out any contraindications.

What to do after buttock augmentation with prostheses?

The buttock augmentation operation with prostheses lasts between 1 and 2 hours and ends with a compressive dressing. After the operation, it is necessary to rest for 48 hours. In this first phase, swelling, bruising and pain in the buttocks may appear. From the third post-operative day, you can resume a normal life, but avoid strenuous activities, saunas, Turkish baths and sun exposure, and it is only after one week that you can return to work, if it is not too strenuous. One month after the operation, however, all normal daily activities can be gradually resumed.

Cosmetic buttock surgery: results

The final result is appreciable after about six months, but the change in profile and correction of skin ptosis are visible immediately after the operation. A certain degree of swelling is expected to disappear during the 2 to 3 postoperative months. For others, the result is permanent: the removed skin does not reform and the fat cells that have settled remain permanently.

Over time, normal skin aging processes can lead to progressive sagging.

In some cases, a corrective operation, generally of modest size, may be necessary after a number of years to eliminate the remaining excess skin.
