Why is having a beautiful face important?
Facial beauty is important for everyone, both women and men. It is the part of the body that is noticed first, and we absolutely cannot neglect it. We all have a face that, over time, bears the signs of age, as well as any damage you may have suffered.
Many reasons lead our body, and especially the face, to change. Besides physiological aging, changes in the face can be determined by a sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, excessive smoking or alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, etc.
Perfect features and facial cosmetic surgery
Sometimes, even the most expensive cosmetic products do not always allow you to obtain the desired image. And that’s when the tenacious seeker of perfection may decide to turn to cosmetic surgery.
Everyone wants a more pleasant appearance and beautiful facial features because beauty is often synonymous with success and gratification. In addition, a pleasant and beautiful appearance helps us to have more confidence in ourselves and in our relationships with others, with the outside world, and for that we are ready to resort to cosmetic surgery.
Of course, beauty standards can change over the years; they are often linked to fashions or trends of thought, but the true concept of beauty can be expressed through the harmony of forms and proportions that goes far beyond the ephemeral passage of a fashion or a period but remains as an index of objective beauty.
Facial imperfections
The face can present different types of imperfections. Some are of genetic origin, such as aquiline noses or excessively thin lips, while others occur as a result of pathologies/trauma, such as acne scars, or simply the passage of time, such as skin laxity and wrinkles. Nowadays, all types of facial imperfections can be improved by modern cosmetic surgery.
Facial cosmetic surgery generally does not have the function of deforming the subject’s natural features but of harmonizing them by eliminating disproportion and imperfections. Facial cosmetic surgery should also try to highlight the strong points of the patient’s beauty.
In other words, the objective of facial cosmetic surgery is to recreate harmony between the different planes: eyes, nose, lips, and cheeks.
It is rare that facial cosmetic surgery is performed in order to modify the basic morphology. The motivations in these cases are a deep internal conflict in the patient concerning their own image (for example, a transsexual patient) or the desire to remove the somatic features characterizing certain pathologies.
Facial cosmetic surgery procedures
Facelift
This is the main cosmetic surgery procedure to fight against facial aging. A facelift involves making incisions in the marginal areas of the face such as along the hairline, in the scalp and behind the ears, and removing the excess skin. The residual scars from a facelift are generally thin, linear, and barely visible. The facelift is often associated with other procedures such as blepharoplasty to correct eyelid ptosis and eye bags, as well as laser peels to rejuvenate the skin surface.
If the skin laxity of the face is partial, a procedure can be considered to correct the specific part of the face such as temporal lifting, neck lifting, and cheek lifting.
Eyelid cosmetic surgery: blepharoplasty
Aging of the skin in the eye area leads to a gradual sagging of the eyelids and the accumulation of fatty tissue creating eye bags. Blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin from the eyelids and small fatty hernias that form. To this end, the surgeon makes small incisions along the fold of the upper eyelid and immediately below the lashes of the lower eyelid.
Nose cosmetic surgery: rhinoplasty
This is one of the most requested procedures in the entire cosmetic surgery sector. This is a procedure that allows the profile and shape of the nose to be reshaped by incisions exclusively inside the nostrils. With this technique, there are no visible scars left. Rhinoplasty has a great influence on the harmony of the face because changing the shape and size of the nose modifies the proportions of the entire face.
Chin cosmetic surgery: mentoplasty
This is a procedure to rebalance the proportions of the face in case the chin is too prominent or receding. The area of interest is reached by an incision inside the buccal mucosa and therefore leaves no scar. In the case of an excessively prominent chin, the cosmetic surgeon removes part of the bone. On the other hand, in the case of a receding chin, the surgeon can insert a special silicone prosthesis. Sometimes, high-density hyaluronic acid can be infiltrated. In the latter case, the resolution of the defect is temporary.
Cosmetic surgery for protruding ears: otoplasty
Surgeons recommend this operation for patients who have protruding ears due to insufficient fold formation in the auricular cartilage. Otoplasty is feasible in children from the age of 4. An incision is made in the area behind the ear, then the cartilage is cut and folded.
Facial cosmetic medicine
Non-surgical cosmetic medicine treatments are increasingly required for the correction of facial defects. Here are the main ones:
- Bio-revitalization: micro-injections of vitamins, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, and polynucleotides. It improves the “texture” of the skin, which appears more hydrated and luminous. In addition, there is a stimulation of natural collagen production.
- Hyaluronic acid: this treatment is very popular in cosmetic medicine to improve the appearance of superficial and deep wrinkles. With these injections, the volume of underdeveloped areas of the face is increased and wrinkles are corrected.
- Botulinum toxin: it weakens the muscle by partial paresis of the treated muscle fibers. This leads to relaxation and distension of the overlying skin area.
- Peeling: a low-intensity acid is applied to the face to exfoliate the superficial layer of the epidermis. Peeling unifies the skin, improves the appearance of surface wrinkles and acne scars.
Results of facial cosmetic surgery
The results of a facial cosmetic surgery procedure vary depending on several factors:
- the type of procedure;
- the patient’s age;
- degree of skin elasticity;
- the anatomical areas treated;
- the skill of the surgeon performing the operation.
In the majority of cases, the results are very good and long-lasting, with barely visible scars. The final result of a facelift, for example, is appreciable at least 2 or 3 weeks after the operation, when the swelling and bruising have disappeared. Nevertheless, this delay is more or less long depending on the factors mentioned above. Young patients whose skin is more elastic obtain better results in less time.
However, for rhinoplasty, for example, the result, generally very good and appreciable from the first two weeks, is final about one year after the operation.
Also, after an otoplasty, the day after the operation, the ears are glued together but are often swollen and the final result is only visible after 3 months, the time it takes for the tissues to regain their suppleness. There are no human beings who have identical ears. Similarly, after the operation, the 2 ears are never 100% symmetrical. The result is final and the shape of the ears is natural.
Facial cosmetic surgery: scars
Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve the appearance of the face and body and to correct a congenital or acquired dysmorphia. Surgery necessarily leaves scars, which therefore play an important role. Removing a slight defect leaving obvious scars is certainly a choice not to be made.
Fortunately, in the majority of facial surgery procedures, the scars are completely or almost hidden. The procedure that presents the most important scars is the facelift. The corresponding scars are located in the middle of the hair, in the fold in front of the ears and in the back area along the hairline. They generally go unnoticed.
Some procedures leave no obvious trace because the incisions are very small. When it is not possible to hide the incisions, the laser makes a valuable contribution. The clean and precise cut of the laser allows better healing and a finer scar.
Facial cosmetic surgery in young people
Increasingly younger patients for facial cosmetic surgery
A few years ago, plastic surgery was exclusive to relatively mature men and women of a certain age, or to public figures. These people all undergo procedures to erase the signs of aging, in search of eternal youth. But today, more and more young people are succumbing to the allure of the surgeon’s hand. Those under 30 go to the surgeon and opt for facial cosmetic surgery procedures for one reason above all: to appear absolutely perfect in a society, that of selfies and social networks.
Beauty and social networks
The impact of social networks on the use of cosmetic surgery
Some cosmetic surgeons say that many patients come to them showing selfies and natural photos. Then they show these same images retouched with filters and other tools. This process allows patients to show the surgeon how they are and how, on the contrary, they would like to be. Often, it is social networks that dictate new styles and new beauty standards. Note that these vary not only from one culture to another, but also according to the time in which we live.
Instagram, Facebook, TikTok: we are increasingly enslaved to our physical appearance. The latter is artfully modified to appear in the best possible shape in the eyes of others. Social networks have undoubtedly played a fundamental role in accentuating this search for unattainable beauty. What we see every day scrolling through the feeds of the main social networks are in fact mainly aesthetic models created ad hoc, not only by cosmetic surgery but also by filters, lights and photoshop. This results in a constant search for surgical or non-surgical tricks in order to resemble as much as possible the idol of the moment, leading to the belief that a retouched face can give more self-confidence and in relationships with others.
Young people and self-confidence
Sometimes, facial cosmetic medicine and surgery can help you feel more confident. Indeed, certain small or large defects can cause problems even at the psychological level, and not only physical. However, today we find ourselves with mostly young patients wishing to change the appearance of their face to be accepted by others on social networks. The beauty of each individual is based on their strengths and weaknesses. And even the influencer that everyone admires may simply have learned to highlight their strengths.
Facial rejuvenation
The combined use of new technologies and new materials makes it possible to prevent and/or correct imperfections resulting from the aging processes of the skin of the face. In cosmetic surgery, different facelift procedures make it possible to correct the signs of aging.
In cosmetic medicine, injectable substances such as bioregeneration with PRP or fillers such as Botox and hyaluronic acid make it possible to correct wrinkles and depressions by promoting cellular regeneration. In addition, new non-invasive or minimally invasive technologies make it possible to obtain significant results on skin relaxation, reshaping the facial profile, eliminating spots and superficial wrinkles, and vascular pathologies.
