Breast Augmentation Surgery: Which Technique Is Right for You?
Increasing the Volume of Small Breasts
Small breasts are characterized by a condition called breast hypoplasia, which can occur during puberty when breast growth is accompanied by a series of bodily changes due to hormonal modifications.
Small breasts can also appear in women after breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or due to the natural aging of the body, generally associated with sagging.
Physically, small breasts do not cause any discomfort, but they can cause significant physical and emotional distress, negatively impacting a woman's self-esteem and well-being.
Fortunately, with the popularization of silicone breast implants, the treatment of this condition has seen a major advance in improving women's self-confidence and quality of life, thanks to breast augmentation. Nowadays, more and more women choose to have breast augmentation surgery to achieve a larger breast volume.

Lifting Sagging Breasts
Prostheses
Depending on the desired result, the cosmetic surgeon has a variety of breast implants available, with the most common being:
- Round implants;
- Ergonomic prostheses;
- Anatomical prostheses (tear-drop shaped);
Round implants allow for the creation of harmoniously shaped breasts from sagging breasts. As they are symmetrical, there is no risk of implant rotation, and positioning is therefore quite easy. Similarly, due to their simple and symmetrical shape, small displacements are unlikely to occur, and any that do can usually be managed manually without additional intervention.
Ergonomic breast implants are composed of gels with different cohesion and density parameters. They represent an excellent compromise between round and teardrop-shaped implants, offering the advantages of both types.
Anatomical or teardrop-shaped breast implants come in three sizes and require precise positioning, as displacement or rotation would be visible. They are ideal for women who want to increase breast volume while maintaining a natural shape.
Augmentation Mammoplasty
Breast augmentation surgery corrects these problems by lifting a sagging breast.
Also called a breast lift, this plastic surgery procedure is usually performed when breast sagging is due to:
- Excessive weight loss (after a diet, for example);
- The end of breastfeeding;
- Normal loss of skin elasticity.
Breast augmentation is also suitable for patients who, in addition to a breast lift, need implants.
Indeed, if a breast, in addition to being sagging, is small or hollow, mastopexy with implants can be used to correct these imperfections.
The operation will give the patient:
- A lifted and firm breast;
- Improved firmness (with implants to fill the volume);
Mastopexy is performed under general anesthesia; the duration may vary depending on the type of lift required but generally lasts two to three hours in the operating room.
The surgeon makes three incisions in the affected area:
- An incision in the areola area to reposition the nipple (higher);
- The second incision runs from the areola to the inframammary region;
- The third is a vertical incision under the breast to lift it and improve its profile;
Breast implants are inserted behind the mammary gland, filling the area.
This same procedure can also be used to reduce breast volume by removing adipose tissue.
After the procedure, the patient may experience swelling in the area in the following days, and it is normal to feel pain.
The patient will need to wear a supportive bra after bandage removal, during the postoperative checkup, and stitches will be removed after about ten days.
Lifting Without Implants (Round Block Technique)
Living with sagging and shrunken breasts is not easy. Simple situations like wearing a bikini or more open blouses become a real ordeal. We appear older than we really are, we don't feel sexy, and much less beautiful.
Very quickly, resorting to a breast lift or mastopexy becomes inevitable.
Just imagining yourself with firm, lifted breasts, without excess skin, makes us enthusiastic, as we see the solution to many of our problems that only a breast lift can solve.
The Round Block surgical technique involves performing a mastopexy with incisions in the periareolar area, so the scar is practically invisible. This even allows young girls or women to regain the tone and firmness of their neckline (for example, after breastfeeding or weight loss) in an extremely discreet way and with a very natural result. Of course, young mothers or very young women are not the only ones to benefit from this innovative methodology.
And Fat Injections in the Breast?
Lipofilling is a particular technique of aesthetic medicine aimed at increasing the volume of areas of the body that appear hollow. It involves extracting fat from the body (autologous) and reintroducing it into the desired area, like a classic filler product.
This technique is widely used for breast augmentation.
It is a safe and compatible technique for shaping and increasing volume with a natural effect. It is a valid alternative to breast implants and is therefore particularly suitable for women who are afraid of surgery and do not want to have foreign bodies inside their bodies.
This technique allows women who want a slight breast augmentation to obtain excellent results without scars and without implants.
It is also an indicated technique to improve asymmetries between the two breasts, to correct a tuberous breast, to repair the damage of previous breast augmentation, or for breast reconstruction after a tumor.
