Cataract

There is no doubt that cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgical interventions in ophthalmology worldwide. This procedure involves removing the affected lens of the eye and replacing it with an artificial lens, which significantly improves vision. It is a relatively simple procedure and its results are exceptional. For those considering surgery in Tunisia, the recommended length of stay is 4 days for one eye and 7 days for both eyes in case of bilateral cataracts.

Lasik

LASIK (Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) is a technique using a laser to improve the visual acuity of the eye. This refractive intervention is very common throughout the world and offers excellent results to patients, who can thus do without corrective glasses. A stay of 3-4 days is required for a Lasik operation.

PRK

Photorefractive keratectomy is a technique that aims to correct myopia using a laser, as is the case for Lasik (except that a PRK does not require a flap cut). For PRK, a 5-day stay in Tunisia is required.

Corneal Graft

By performing a corneal graft, the patient can regain good vision. This intervention is mainly aimed at blind patients or visually impaired people, it is one of the most performed types of grafts. The method consists of removing the diseased cornea and replacing it with a healthy cornea, which has been taken from a deceased donor. For a corneal graft, a first visit is required to establish the general diagnosis and order the graft. The operation will be performed on average 6 weeks later and will require a 7-day stay.

Vitrectomy

Vitrectomy consists of removing part of the vitreous, which is located between the lens and the retina. This intervention may be necessary for two reasons: either as a first step for another surgical operation, or because the vitreous is the cause of visual disturbances. For a duration of five days, the vitrectomy is performed according to the chosen surgical method after opening the eye.

Laser Photocoagulation

In this treatment, a laser beam is applied directly to the retina, which is the deepest part of an eye. The aim of this maneuver is to treat certain retinal diseases, such as a tear or detachment. For Laser Photocoagulation, a one-day stay is required.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a pathology that affects the optic nerve of the eye. It mainly occurs when an excess of fluid accumulates in the anterior part of the eye. This extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve. A 5-day stay in Tunisia is required for glaucoma exploration and surgery.

Trabeculectomy

This is a surgical operation that allows the removal of part or all of the trabeculum. It is an indication for treating refractory glaucoma. The stay to be planned for trabeculectomy is 5 days.

SLT Laser

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty or SLT Laser allows to lower the intraocular pressure by 20 to 30% of the initial pressure which is much more effective than a medical monotherapy. A 1-day stay is required for an SLT Laser. The result will be checked after 1 month.
