Vaginoplasty: Vaginal Tightening Surgery
What is vaginoplasty surgery and what is its purpose?
Candidates for vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the vaginal walls aimed at restoring vaginal functionality and achieving aesthetic improvement.
The surgeon works on the vaginal mucosa and the muscular structures and supporting tissues (fascia). The result will be a narrowing of the vaginal canal. After vaginoplasty, the vagina regains its muscle tone, for example, as it was before childbirth.
The procedure design is personalized because each woman is different, both in terms of her physical characteristics and her needs and preferences.
It generally lasts between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on the case, and is performed under local anesthesia and sedation or regional anesthesia.
Candidates for vaginoplasty are adult women who present with one or more of the following conditions:
- Vaginal laxity: Wide vagina, with flaccidity. This leads to a loss of sexual pleasure (the degree of pleasure is linked to friction or rubbing), prolapse of the bladder, uterus or rectum, stress urinary incontinence. The patient notices that tampons fall out, that gas escapes from the vaginal orifice, that when getting out of the sea or the swimming pool, the vagina fills with water and runs down the legs;
- Stress urinary incontinence;
- Desire to improve genital aesthetics;
What are the causes of vaginal laxity?
When we talk about aging, we generally think of the face and neck, but during life, the female genitals also undergo changes.
In particular, with menopause, female hormones decrease, leading to a reduction in the elasticity of the vagina and vulva and their lubrication, resulting in vaginal laxity. These changes are at the origin of many intimate discomforts such as vaginal dryness, burning and pain. Even with the use of lubricants, sexual activity is painful for many women and intimate relations can cause psychological and physical stress.
Aging and laxity of the genitals, as well as pregnancies and childbirth, can also cause sagging of the labia minora, which become very large, to the point of hanging from the labia majora, which is a source of discomfort and embarrassment.
In addition, bladder tightness can also decrease, causing small leaks of urine after a sneeze or a small cough.
This condition affects 50% of women, but it is often kept silent due to the embarrassment and shame it causes.
Vaginoplasty surgery techniques
Vaginoplasty by fat injection or vaginal lipofilling
Vaginoplasty can also be performed during the same surgical procedure and allows for reshaping the vagina, with a lipostructuration of the wall itself thanks to the autologous transplantation of adipocytes, "lipofilling", in the submucosa.
As we have already explained in lipofilling, there is an increase in the volume of its walls with a narrowing of its diameter, and with the regeneration of its tissues, there is also a rejuvenation of these, with greater elasticity and tonicity.
Complete vaginoplasty: Colpoperineorrhaphy
Colporrhaphy is a surgical procedure used to repair weaknesses in your vaginal walls that cause unpleasant symptoms. Unlike many other reconstructive surgeries used to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP), your provider can perform the procedure without having to make a large incision (cut) in your abdomen.
Hyaluronic acid vaginoplasty without surgery
Restoring the turgescence of the vulva is also possible without using a scalpel. The mons pubis, the labia majora and minora, the vaginal ostium and the clitoral G-spot can be filled by micro-injections of hyaluronic acid subcutaneously and submucosally. Hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the body, is resorbable. It is a substance similar to that usually used to revitalize facial skin or to fill body depressions or lift the buttocks. The technique involves the local application of an anesthetic cream about an hour before treatment. Some fillers contain a local anesthetic. As it is a resorbable substance, periodic treatments are necessary. The aesthetic result is immediate and harmoniously natural. There are specific hyaluronic acid formulations for the intimate parts of women to hydrate and rejuvenate the vaginal mucosa and to fill the external parts of the vulva such as the labia majora.

What is the result of vaginoplasty surgery?
Functionally: Pleasure
After vaginoplasty surgery, patients notice differences in sensitivity in the area affected by the surgery. Thanks to vaginoplasty surgery, the vaginal wall is stronger, more toned and offers greater sensitivity during sexual intercourse.
Aesthetically
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that consists of a V-resection of excess vaginal mucosa and a suture to reinforce the endopelvic fascia, thus reducing the introitus and increasing the tension of the vaginal canal. The use of the continuous-mode surgical laser improves hemostasis and healing parameters. The procedure is performed in the operating room, under regional anesthesia (epidural, pudendal block), does not require hospitalization and has a minimal complication rate. Sexual abstinence is recommended for 4 to 6 weeks until complete healing. The best aesthetic and functional results are obtained by combining 2 to 3 sessions of subsequent vaginal laser rejuvenation.
